The Florence Marathon (Italian: Maratona di Firenze) was established 1984, and is an annual full-length marathon race which takes place in late November in Florence, Italy.
As a main event in Tuscany and being the first 20 marathons in the world as far as quality and number of participants; Florence Marathon together with the Rome Marathon are now considered one of the most important marathons in Italy.
THE ROUTE
The flowing paths of this particular Florentine route is appreciated by many athletes. The path is ramp-free with a slightly sloping stretch at the beginning and then becomes ramp-free. The route flows through remarkable landscape views and beautiful famous monuments. This path runs through some of the most fascinating places in Florence; such as piazza del Duomo, piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio and many other paths that are rich in history and culture, and then ending in the piazza Santa Croce.
Time limit
The time limit to finish the race (42,194 km) is 6 hours. The time limit to pass the half-marathon point (km 21,097 km) is 3 hours. The time limit at the 30 km signpost is 4h.15. Athletes running at more than 8'30 minutes per km must observe the highway code.
The Florence Marathon is included in the official calendar of international marathons; it has achieved the AIMS’s certification and is acknowledged by IAAF. In the year 2007 it has been listed among those events valid for the achievement of the minimum results necessary to participate in the 2008 Olympic Games of Beijing.
